Expat Cinema: The Shining

Every month - on a Friday night somewhere half-way - Filmtheater De Witt presents EXPAT CINEMA. We screen an English language movie or a movie with English subtitles to reach out to film fans in/around Dordrecht, who are not familiar with the Dutch language. Please join your fellow-expat-citizens to experience a good movie and enjoy the occasion to meet fellow citizens from abroad. Dutchies are welcome too.

On the 13th of February an iconic horror thriller is on the big screen. It was 45 years ago that Stanley Kubricks masterpiece THE SHINING launched itself to film history. Off course also thanks to the eminent acting of Jack "..here comes Johnny.." Nicholson. He plays Jack Torrance, a writer suffering from a writer's block. When he is hired as caretaker of the prestigious Overlook Hotel, located in a remote spot in the Colorado mountains, he sees this as the ideal opportunity to find inspiration and finish his book. What's more, it's the perfect place for him, his wife Wendy (Shelly Duvall) and his young son Danny (Danny Lloyd) to relax. In all his arrogance, he dismisses the rumours that evil forces inhabit the hotel and the grim story of the previous caretaker who went mad and then gruesomely murdered his family.

The film will be introduced in English by cinema-owner Geert ter Steeg.
After the screening, we provide a pleasant get-together with other film fans. Therefore the combi-ticket, which includes a free drink.
